While the name might not sound familiar there is a good chance you have experienced coryza before. Coryza, simply put, is a medical term that is used to described the symptoms that commonly arise with a head cold, however, it is important to note that many other conditions, like measles, can cause coryza as well.
When speaking about coryza, the hallmark symptoms include the inflammation of the mucous membranes inside the nose and nasal passages. This inflammation causes the nose to turn red, tender and swollen. Typically, patients with coryza will start generating large amounts of mucus, and the result is the classic runny nose that most people associate with a cold; or in this case, possible measles.
