Let’s say that you decided to take the plunge and for whatever reason, have chosen to give up drinking. And as a few months start to go by, you begin to notice something a little odd. Not bad, just odd. You notice that you haven't gotten sick or come down with a cold, or had a scratchy throat, or anything for that matter. You have been unusually healthy. Well, if you quit drinking, let us be the first to tell you that there is nothing unusual about it at all.
Fun fact: Alcohol has a big and IMMEDIATE impact on our immune system. Bet you didn’t know that? Well, according to a recent study, it was found that even just a single night of binge drinking can negatively impact the immune system within 20 minutes of consuming the alcohol. Scientists believe this is a result of a decrease in circulating levels of white blood cells and natural killer cells, both of which are main combatants of our immune system. This is further compounded by the fact that heavy alcohol consumption deprives our bodies of certain nutrients, some of which helps white blood cells to multiply. Unless they can do that, then the likelihood of you getting sick increases.
