One Greensburg woman is feeling awfully fortunate to have a sister that is a skilled nurse that gave her the perfect advice, in just the nick of time. Debra Erdley recently depicted her experience having a cardiac issue, via a very enlightening post on the Trib Live website.
Debra, like many, was having a normal Labor Day relaxing, and doing the hobbies she regularly enjoyed. That was, until, she felt a pretty unusual feeling going through her arm during a routine gardening venture.
She describes this happening in the article as “When I bent down I felt a sudden excruciating pain shoot through my sternum, up the side of my neck, around my ear and down my jaw.” This is how she relayed the experience back to her sister on a phone call later in the day, and thankfully, her sister pushed for Debra to quickly get to the hospital as she was describing what was commonly known as how many women experience a heart attack.
Upon arriving to the ER, she underwent tests, and was told she suffered a thoracic aortic aneurysm dissection. After one helicopter ride to another hospital, and a Dacron patch surgery, she was back in action. Pretty scary stuff, and not everyone has a family member that has the medical knowledge to warn them of how dangerous their current health situation can be.

In the meantime, take excellent care of yourself, and in the event you ever start to feel any of these symptoms mentioned in the enclosed link, call 911, or get the attention of someone else to get you to a medical professional immediately. Even if it turns out to be nothing, it’s always better to be safe rather than sorry!
