It’s that time of year to work on that beautiful tan, and get some fun in the sun! With that comes a huge responsibility of knowing just exactly when you may have had too much sun exposure. If you decided to spend the day out a boat for instance, you may not be able to get out of the sun’s powerful rays for several hours. This will require more than just sunscreen, as you may likely need a hat, sunglasses, and something to cover up that is a light fabric to keep you cool all day, and sunburn free. There are those days when it’s just unavoidable, and you end up with a painful sunburn. Is there anything you can do to find relief?
Thankfully, yes! If you’ve developed one of the milder cases of sunburn, expect to feel the effects of it for a few days. If you’ve been unlucky enough to get a serious sunburn, you may be in agony for up to two weeks according to the experts at Good Housekeeping.
Some great tips they provided to help manage your burn:
- Use a good moisturizer
- Administer allergy medications if you have them
- Use an ice pack on painful areas
- Drink tons of water, your body is really in need of it right now
- Apply a hydrocortisone cream
Sometimes the hardest part about being burnt is realizing that you can’t enjoy your favorite activities as much until it fully goes away. It’s not fun, but it is only temporary! Hang in there and use this experience as a learning tool for next time. Even if you’re not hanging out at the beach all day, you can still develop a bad burn. Cutting the grass, working on a car outdoors, or simply playing at the local park for a while can catch up to your skin rather quickly so always be cautious. Not only by applying sunscreen before you leave the house, but taking it with you to continue covering yourself all throughout the day.
