NFL pro bowl quarterback Jay Cutler was just 24-years old when he began to find it difficult to maintain his weight. And then when he lost over 30 pounds throughout the course of the 2007-08 season he knew something was really wrong. It turns out that it was type 1 diabetes that was causing his health issues. Undeterred, Cutler learned to manage the disease and continues to play to this day. He is particularly notable for the great diligence he shows to manage the disease and now has it down to a science. The good news is that there is much a person can do in the areas of diet, exercise, and lifestyle to help themselves. A diabetes diagnosis doesn’t mean that life is over, look to the following sports figures as proof that diabetes can be managed.
