This symptom is a ‘Catch 22’ if there ever was one. One of the most characteristic attributes of the welts associated with an allergic reaction is that they can be extremely itchy. This symptom can be particularly troublesome because of the fact that although you are itchy, by scratching your hives in an attempt to alleviate your discomfort, it will typically only make it worse and more severe.
Itching, however, isn't the only sensation that an allergic reaction, and in turn its welts, can cause. Sometimes, and depending on the allergen, the resulting hides can manifest not as itchy, but as stinging and possible burning, which can prove even more painful and uncomfortable.
The best way to combat this symptom is by using an anti-itch cream as well as wearing loose clothing. You must remember that any material that touches your hives can very easily irritate them, so by keep your skin exposed and the clothes around it loose; it will help to make your symptoms bearable until they pass.
