The relationship between emotional stress and psychical pain is a complex one, and it is never as simple as saying “I have stress, and now my hips hurt,” however, that may not be too far off from the truth. So, we ask the question, why does emotional stress cause my hips to hurt of all places?
First of all, if you are experiencing emotional stress, especially over a long period of time, then chances are it has started to cause some inflammation in your body that can lead to joint pain and discomfort. Also, when we are stressed, our movements will often be altered, this can be as simple as how you sit in a chair to how you walk from point A to point B. Although it is not something that many of us think about often, the reality is that the way we feel and our emotional state will often dictate the way our bodies hold themselves and the way we move them and use them. Furthermore, experiencing emotional stress can cause unwanted muscle tension, which can lead to stiffness. Lastly, if a person is expecting a significant amount of emotional stress, it is possible for them to “perceive pain,” if there is no known cause for its occurrence.
