It is fairly common practice to liken life’s events, trials, tribulations, and hardships to sports. “It isn’t how many times you get knocked down, but how many times you get back up,” and the ever popular “you miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take,” yes, sports analogies usually ring true when applied to real life, however, if you are dealing with a narcissist, don’t expect them to act like sterling examples of these.
Competition has a tendency to bring out the best and worst in people, and when it comes to a narcissist, it is usually and invariably the worst. Narcissists are often characteristically sore losers, and will often work themselves into a fit of rage or anger when they lose. By the same token, they are also the usually the worst kind of winners, often gloating about their victory, acting condescending in an effort to reassert their power and dominance. Needless to say, it isn’t the easiest thing to get these individuals to shake hands after a game; win or lose.
