One of the most infamous athletes of the current era with a mental health illness, (after being diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder in 2011) Brandon Marshall has taken it upon himself to champion the cause of spreading awareness regarding mental illness, with the hope that the tired, faulty stigma attached to these diseases decreases with more knowledge surrounding the ailments. Marshall credits his diagnose with helping him understand himself better and become a better teammate and husband, and his level of play at wideout has ascended since the diagnosis. In his relentless quest to raise awareness for mental health disorders, he deliberately wore non-uniform colored cleats and was subsequently fined in Oct 2013 for wearing green to highlight Mental Illness Awareness week. He’s also set up a foundation to spread awareness of mental illness and to provide access to mental health resources for those in need. Mandatory Credit: Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports
