Celiac Disease is an auto-immune disorder that causes allergic reactions to ingesting gluten, which is a protein found in wheat, barley & rye. Although no single cause has been pinpointed by doctors, they do know that Celiac Disease is hereditary and it’s estimated that 1 in 100 people are effected by it. The classic symptoms are diarrhea and weight loss, but some people may have no issues at all. Other symptoms may include: anemia, acid reflux, headaches, fatigue, rashes or loss of bone density. If suspected, doctors will test for celiac disease by performing blood tests or endoscopy procedures. Sufferers of celiac disease must adhere to a strict gluten-free diet in order to manage their disease with added supplements where needed.
